Hi Folks,
I've uploaded a document called Independent Foundations. This is a list of a couple of hundred family foundations legally residing in the Cleveland area. Family / independent foundations are a little different in their relationships with nonprofits; although gifts can be smaller, they tend to be continuous; more of a personal relationship with the nonprofit. This list is a couple of years old, but still relevant. The only thing that changes with these is, sometimes, the board members or key contact folks. It's a good research project for a student to delve into: updating. For NEOCL, I'd consider pulling together a target list for "solicitation" in November, as an annual solicitation approach featuring a couple of our projects. Keep in mind - a family foundation interested in education WOULD be interested in asset mapping and educational forums targeting K-12 districts in Northeast Ohio. Also, foundations that say "preselected only" still should be given a call. You never know what peaks the interest of the person at the other end of the phone. This list is different from the "big boy" foundation list - which I am working on (those that have capacity for larger grants).
